Gardening Club tools broke ground for the first time on September 15 when the club gathered to plant a xeriscape garden in the raised plant bed in front of the Engineering Management Education building.
Ashlee Hignell of United Landscapes, who designed the garden, demonstrated effective planting methods, before giving 15 club members the chance to get their hands dirty bringing the plant bed to life.
There are three more Gardening Club workshops coming up in September and October, which are now open to UBC students as well as staff and faculty. The next workshop is on nectar trails and will be led by Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies prof. Nancy Holmes. It takes place on September 22 at 12 noon in the Science building atrium.
