For the past five years, the space formerly known as the Okanagan Room has been used for various functions, but it hasn’t been a faculty lounge for a long time. That all changes this Friday morning, when ADM 115 opens as a well-appointed new lounge for faculty and staff.
“Faculty and staff told us that they wanted a place that was informal and comfortable, to get together, have lunch and relax,” says Jackie Podger, AVP Administration and Finance. “It was a high priority to provide this space and we were able to do that by using existing space and materials.”
The wood floor was brought back from heavy wear, the ceiling tiles are re-used from the Library, and a complete recycling station is in place in the kitchen. And the coffee is always on with a two-carafe machine on the counter. There’s a water dispenser, too, and a kettle for those who prefer tea.
All faculty and staff are encouraged to visit the new lounge starting with the PitStop on Friday morning. It’s located immediately adjacent to the cafeteria in the Administration building. Your Salto proximity access card will get you into the lounge, starting Friday. If you don’t have a Salto card, just complete an online key request form. The lounge can be booked for other functions by contacting Jeannine Sali (jeanine.sali@ubc.ca) in the Facilities office.
