On February 4, Graham Swett made it two years in a row.
Swett won the Open Chess Championship, held at UBC’s Okanagan campus. He defeated tournament organizer Greg Bishop in the final match of the tournament in a tense game that lasted into the final minutes of play.
Omkrishna Shah, a first-year management student from Nepal, placed third in the tournament.
The Open Chess Championship is an annual event that is open to all faculty, staff, students and community members. It is sponsored by the UBC Bookstore and all proceeds from the tournament go to purchase equipment for the UBC Chess club.
