March 19 to 23 is Rule Out Racism week at UBC — a week dedicated to building a mindful campus community which highlights and celebrates diversity.
The week’s events will begin with an opening ceremony on March 19 in the campus courtyard at 12 noon. March 21 will be the fullest day of activities, featuring a graduate student research spotlight on race and racism (11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., ART183), an Eat Your Words interactive art project (11 a.m. to 1 p.m., campus courtyard and UNC foyer) and a film screening of One Big Happa Family (3 p.m., UNC theatre) and a live broadcast entitled Addressing Injustice: UBC’s Response to the Internment of Japanese Canadian Students — Then and Now.
There will also be visual art displays in the campus courtyard that address the notion of territory from an Aboriginal perspective and a series of film screenings in the UNC theatre throughout the week.
